John 14:14 "If you ask Me anything in My name, I
will do it."
Jesus repeats Himself. Now this next verse is as if
Jesus is begging me to pray for anything in His
name. This is a fantastic promise. I should not
ignore the heart of Jesus to seek and pray for the
true answers in life.
Jesus went back to Father God and he sent the Holy Spirit to help me. As I listen to the Holy Spirit and live in quietness with Him I have the spirit of prayer and assurance that what I ask will be answered because I am living/walking with God and are doing the things pleasing in His sight.
Matthew 7:7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."
I was snow plowing with a 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive pickup. The truck does OK but going up hill and pushing snow sometimes is a problem. When I got to a slick street, I was not able to push the snow very far. I would back up and try again. I did this many times until I got the street clean.
I was thinking of this verse while I was working. Asking, seeking, and knocking is similar to what I am doing with the snow plow. I kept trying till I got it done. It is the same with the Lord. He wants us to keep at it till we have the answer. Don't give up Jesus will answer. Don't lose heart, but believe.
John 15:7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide
in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done
for you."
Whatever we wish? Yes it is what we wish! But are
we willing? There are requirements to promises in
the Bible and there are 2 here. The first is to
abide in Jesus. Not only to live according to the
word that He taught, (the Bible) but also to live
in Him as well. John 5:39,40 show that is not just
the Bible we need to obey but to have a living
relationship with Jesus. To converse with Him. Then
from this relationship answers will come.
John 15:16 "You did not choose Me but I chose you,
and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit,
and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever
you ask of the Father in My name He may give to
you."
Here is another promise just a few verses later.
There are 2 requirements to this promise.
1. God appointed us to bear fruit.
2. Our fruit is to remain.
What is fruit. A tree produces fruit that will
reproduce itself. So winning disciples for Christ
is a main requirement. There are also 9 fruits of
the Spirit. Galatians 5:22,23 love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control. These are to be shown in
our life. With these we know that God will answer
our prayer.
John 16:24 "Until now you have asked for nothing in
My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy
may be made full."
Here is a promise to new
Christians. It is to people that have not asked
anything in prayer. Answered prayer gives us joy.
1 John 3:22 "and whatever we ask we receive from
Him, because we keep His commandments and do the
things that are pleasing in His sight."
There are 2 requirements to answered prayer here.
Keeping the commands of Jesus and doing the things
pleasing in His sight.
People say we are free from the law. When one gets married they give up the right to be with other people of the opposite sex. This is not keeping a law. This is a choice of who we are going to spend our life with. To be a Christian we decide to leave the ways of the world and live for Jesus. It is a decision to follow Jesus and be pleasing to Him and not the world. You can't serve Jesus if you are double minded.
1 John 5:14,15 "This is the confidence which we
have before Him, that, if we ask anything according
to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He
hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have
the requests which we have asked from Him."
The Bible presents God's will. As we study the
Bible we learn God's will. Faith arises in our
hearts as we hear God's word. Then this assurance
of faith gives us the confidence that God will hear
and answer.
James 1:5,6,7 "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let
him ask of God, who gives to all generously and
without reproach, and it will be given to him. But
he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the
one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven
and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to
expect that he will receive anything from the
Lord."
God will answer prayer. God will give us the wisdom
for what is happening in life. But when I doubt God
will answer, I don't get answers.
Mark 11:24 "Therefore I say to you, all things for
which you pray and ask, believe that you have
received them, and they will be granted you."
Prayer and faith go together. When I believe I
receive.
